A quick congratulations to Hannah Plybon & her family, as yesterday Hannah made a verbal commitment to accept a scholarship from the University of Akron basketball program.
The Orrville junior is currently the 2nd leading scorer in Orrville girls history (1380 points) and is also a THREE-TIME All-Ohioan. She was a 3rd team selection as a freshman and has earned first-team honors each of the last 2 seasons. No Orrville girls player (and maybe boys, too) has earned 3 All-Ohio honors in a high school basketball career, let alone 4. Hannah has that chance next year. That in itself is a pretty amazing feat.
The Zips were 14-18 last year and 7-9 in MAC play under head coach Jodi Kest.
Hannah will join big sister Hillary (Volleyball at Austin Peay) as a Div. 1 scholarship athlete.
I believe she will be the 7th lady Red Rider to play basketball at the Division 1 level joining Libby Ladrach (Robert Morris), Dawn Woodruff (Liberty), Keri Simmons (Marshall), Rhonda Winters & Stacie Howard (both played at Ohio State) & Nancy Shie (Ohio U.). Of that group, I believe only Simmons, Woodruff & Howard played more than 1 season at their respective school.
Congrats Hannah & the entire Plybon family. What an accomplishment to celebrate.
