With the news of two Orrville tracks records falling over the weekend at the Trivay Invite, I thought it was perfect timing to post the all-time OHS Track records as well as make some changes to the menu bar in red at the top of the site.
Turner and Jarrett
First off, congrats to Stewart Turner for setting the all-time boys long jump record at 22’ 10 ½” and to Alexa Jarrett for breaking her own girls pole vault record of 10’6”by clearing 11’ even.
Stewart’s effort was also a record-setting mark for the Triway Invitational and the Wayne County area as well. It broke the school record of 22’ 9 ½” set in 1999 by Patrick McAllister.
I thought it was special to read in the Wooster Daily Record of Stewart excelling in the high jump just like his father from his days as a standout athlete in Wooster. Isn't it something how success and achievement (and work ethic, etc.) get passed down from generation to generation? We've seen so much of that over the years in Orrville and Stewart is another great example of that. Again....TRADITION matters. Don't tell me it doesn't.
Records
Here’s the entire list of current OHS track records for both the boys and girls. Thanks to Coach Jason Ayers for sending these my way.
New Record Boards
If you’ve visited Red Rider Stadium this spring (while dodging raindrops), you may have noticed new record boards on display. Currently they reside on the outside of the bathrooms at the south end of the stadium. The funds for the new record boards were privately raised and the design of the boards were done by LetterGraphics and installed by the Orrville Schools maintenance staff. I'm told by Coach Ayers that the boards will be permanently relocated above the home concession stand sometime this summer.
Track Upgrade
I hope to read of an entire new track surface soon. The old track cannot be resurfaced anymore, so the next move is complete replacement. This HAS to be priority #1 when it comes to athletic facility improvements in Orrville. We risk losing the annual District Track Meet and if current conditions deteriorate further, safety risks come into play. If the chirping birds have any merit, it sounds like serious consideration is being given to replacing the track as early as the Summer of 2012...and not a moment too soon.
New Menu Heading
You’ll also notice a new heading at the top of the page titled “Records and Champions.” Should be pretty self-explanatory, it will be where I’ll house and sport-specific records as well as the previously posted list of Orrville state champions through the years. Right now, you can find the Track Records along with records for Girls and Boys Basketball there. I’ll get football added (it will just be a scan of last year’s program page) before the start of the season.
Calling all Coaches
If any coaches out there have a list of records that they want included, just send them my way and I’ll get them posted. I don’t want be accused of favoring certain sports, but this is data I don’t have in my possession, so it’s sort of up to you on this one.
