I knew when I bothered to count the days that it's been since Orrville last lost to Wooster in football & boys basketball that I was asking for trouble. Well, last night the streak ended...and apparently the Wooster community draws their inspiration from my blog.

Nope, no pressure here.
Since there's nothing else going on (I'm flattered that so many of you have clicked over here hoping to read my take on "the story", sorry to disappoint you.) let's talk about the post-season, specifically the expectations being put on this years team.
The Ohio High School Hoops blog has been a fan of the Red Riders all season, consistently ranking us in the top 10 of his D3 poll, and the love continues in their post-season predictions.
Sidebar: How about that picture? Good old St. John Arena. That's about the view that fans had for our state games. What a great barn that was.

Guest Post: Wooster District Preview - Part 1
Ok, here you go. Team capsules for each of the 14 squads in the Division III Wooster district. This was put together in very short order by Andrew Marcum, who runs the fabulous Ohiobasketball.net - Wooster District site. Click each team for their wins and losses detail.
Part 2 will include a full bracket prediction along with game previews for the potential matchups.
Very nice work Andrew.

A Slight Correction - RE: Jake Bolyard
Received a phone call yesterday from someone (no names please) regarding Jake Bolyard's career point total, and it turns out he's closer to 1,000 than I had given him credit for.

Tim Hiller in Florida to Accept Wuerffel Trophy
Good reading here. Orrville alum Tim Hiller was named the winner of the Danny Wuerffel Trophy back in December, but tonight is when he actually receives the award at a banquet in Florida.
Western Michigan's Director of Athletic Media Relations, Mat Kanan, is with Tim and his family in Florida for all the goings-on surrounding the award and has a wonderful blog at WMU's website detailing it all.
Check it out here, and check again later tonight or tomorrow for pictures from the event.
One little nugget that caught my eye...apparently Tim is now appearing on currency, or at least collectible currency....
How cool would that look in the Orrville High School Trophy case? Maybe right next to a replica of the Wuerffel Trophy? Just sayin'.
Maybe The Hiller's can snag a few extra coins for posterity....they're probably like party favors at a wedding, right?
All kidding aside, congrats again Tim. Great accomplishment that recognizes work on and off the field.

The ASA (All-Sports Association, the group that awards the Wuerffel Trophy) has minted commemorative coins with Tim's name and the likeness of the Wuerffel trophy that are available to attendees. You know you've made it when your name & likeness is stamped on to coins.

League Record: 13-1
Congrats to Coach Alberts and the Lady Riders. It's the thrid time the girls have won at least a share of the OCC since the 2003-04 season, and the second time they've won it outright.
Thanks to Mike Guster for the photo.

Update on 1,000 - Now with Pictures
Here's an update on Jake Bolyard and Zach Wasson's pursuit of 1,000 career points. There's a better than average chance that both will reach the milestone yet this season.

Riders Grab #1 seed in Wooster District
It wasn't really a surprise, but it's nice to see, and a feather (albeit a small feather) in the cap of Coach Slaughter, his staff and the players...the Orrville boys basketball team has been tabbed as the #1 seed in the upcoming Wooster Division III sectional/district tournament.

...And down the stretch they come
We're down to a month or so left in the winter sports season. Tournaments are right around the corner and the dust is starting to settle. Plenty of things to talk about so let's get to it.
