It's down to 12 schools vying for 6 titles. Six of the twelve are private schools, but that's the norm anymore (and an entirely different discussion).
Below are the games, and my picks.
Friday Games
D3 - Young. Cardinal Mooney vs Cols. St Francis DeSales
I like Mooney, just like their '06 team that won it all.
Orrville Connection - We've lost to both in the playoffs, Mooney in 2006, DeSales in 1985.
D5 - Coldwater vs Youngstown Ursuline
Can Colwater knock off another Youngstown Parochial? If anyone can, it's them, but I'll have to see it to believe it.
Orrville Connection - We've beaten both in the playoffs, both in 1998.
D2 - Maple Heights vs Cincinnati Winton Woods
Plenty of offense on both sides, but I think Winton Woods will be too much.
Saturday Games
D4 - Chagrin Falls vs Kettering Archbishop Alter
Alter repeats. Still think the Riders could have been in this game. I honestly do.
D6 - Delphos St Johns vs Norwalk St Paul
NSP maybe the most successful small school without a title. St. Paul has finished runner up 3 times, they finally get one in '09.
D1 - Cleve. Glenville vs Hilliard Davidson
So much talent on Glenville's side. When they beat Iggy in week 12, that put aside all the talk that they can't beat a more disciplined team. Glenville wins one for the Cleveland Public Schools.
Orrville Connection - Ummm...we played Glenville twice back in the 80's (both wins).
So there you go...possibly 4 of the 6 champs will be private schools (not even counting Glenville who is starting to turn into the next Cincinnati Academy of Phys. Ed., remember C.A.P.E.?)
Nothing wrong with this system, nosiree.
