The Lady Rider volleyball team beat Ashland last night to secure a share of the OCC title along with Madison and Lexington. It's the Riders first OCC title since 2004, and 3rd overall since joining the league in 2003.
It's also the first time any OCC sport has had the league title divided in 3. There have been plenty of co-champs, even a quad-champ (2004-05 Girls Basketball..shared by Madison, Lexington, Orrville and West Holmes), but there has never been a tri-champ until last night.
Congrats to Coach K. also. A league title, state ranking (No. 7 in the most recent Coaches poll) and hopefully a long post-season run. Not bad for a first year coach.
Overall, Orrville girl's sports have won or shared 6 OCC League titles, while the boys have only won 1 (Football in 2005, shared with Wooster).
Tourney Time
Here's the bracket for the Div. 3 volleyball tournament to be held at Smithville. The Lady Riders earned the #1 seed and will start tournament play against Rittman on Tues. October 20th. The game will follow the Northwestern/Rootstown game which begins at 6pm. If they win, they will face Our Lady of the Elms on Thursday October 22nd at 7:30pm.
I don't follow much volleyball, but an Orrville/Smithville district final matchup seems to be a lock.
Good luck to the Lady Riders and all fall sports teams as they head down the tournament trail.
